Networking

The Ten Commandments of Networking

If you want to visit the MBA, please contact us.

1. Give up the “Lone Ranger” mentality.
You don’t have to do it alone; your networks will help you achieve your goals, once you learn to ask.

2. Honor your relationships.
Ethical, honest and helpful dealings with people in your networks are essential if you are to benefit.

3. Acknowledge people.
Everyone in your network needs to be acknowledged…for the help they provide and as a person.

4. Manage yourself as a resource.
You are a major asset of your business and must manage your tme and energy as you would any valuable asset.

5. Take the initiative.
Speak up, ask for referrals, tell people what you do. Remember that a stranger is a friend you have yet to meet. Everyone who comes within three feet of you is a potential client or referral source.

6. Be your own best PR person.
No need to brag or boast, but you can let people in your network know about the effective things you are doing.

7. Ask for what you want.
People in your network cannot read your mind; ask for specific leads or referrals, for information you need to secure an appointment or close a deal. Most people are flattered to be asked to help.

8. Expand your vision.
Think big — everyone in the world is just 3 or 4 referrals away. By expanding your vision, you can develop a larger sphere of influence.

9. Follow the Golden Rule of networking.
“Do for others as you’d like them to do for you.” Effective networkers know the secret is in giving, because that’s the foundation for receiving. Give referrals and help in every opportunity you can create.

10. Networking as a way of life.
Networking doesn’t stop at 5:00 pm or exist only in the workplace…practice effective networking all the time and you’ll see results.
